- Initially, there will be two pilot tollway projects, including (1) a new highway project, and (2) a major bridge project. Each proposed pilot project must be approved by the General Assembly.
- The Tollway Act establishes a goal that at least one of the pilot projects will be ready to proceed to contract for design and construction within five (5) years after the effective date of the Act.
- TDOT is currently developing evaluation criteria to use for the selection of pilot projects, and it will coordinate this evaluation with the appropriate local and regional planning processes. TDOT is also currently working with the Office of the Comptroller to include potential tolling projects in the State’s 5-year financial plan.
- A status report on the proposed pilot projects must be provided to the General Assembly by January 1, 2009. TDOT may not proceed to develop any toll project beyond the pilot program without the express approval of the General Assembly.
