State Route 62 - Western Avenue(From Texas Ave. to Major Ave.), Knoxville
Project Update
With the summer months upon us, there has been quite a bit of activity on the project. The contractor has crews working in several locations throughout the length of the project. These include utility installations (sewer, water, gas, and electric), grading operations, and storm sewer pipe installation.
Primary activities are concentrating in the area of John May Road and Western Avenue, and Nickel Road and Western Avenue. These two areas are being completely reconstructed to new alignments for safer, easier access to Western Avenue. The contractor is also working in the South Hinton Road area.
Traffic Alert:
The Nickel Road entrance to Western Avenue and the John May Road entrance to Western Avenue are both closed at this time for construction operations. All traffic needing to access Western Avenue from Nickel Road will have to detour using Short Road. The lower access to Ridgedale School is closed at this time.
The contractor plans to close Ridgedale Road and detour this traffic needing to access Western Avenue through the Ridgedale School parking lot. This closure is anticipated to occur after the new alignment of Nickel Road is completed.
A Public Meeting was conducted on January 17, 2012.
