The Travel Data Office consists of two sections: Analysis Section and Travel Data Section.

The Analysis Section compiles and reports statewide traffic data for the Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) to the Federal Highway Administration. Traffic statistics are collected and analyzed for a variety of reports. This section also is responsible for the design of permanent traffic count locations (Embedded Detection Loops and ATRs) that are inserted into contract plans.
The Analysis Section provides traffic forecast data and analysis used during multiple phases of project development. This section also reviews traffic impact studies submitted to the Department by Metropolitan Planning Organizations and Local Governments and provides additional assistance when needed. The Analysis Section analyzes all traffic data used in the forecasting process. This section is responsible for the review and approval of all Engineering Consultant Count Data and Traffic Forecast Methodologies.
The Travel Data Section

The Travel Data Section is responsible for collecting traffic volumes, travel time surveys, and special counts statewide. It also processes vehicle volume, classification and vehicle weight data. This section incorporates all data into ADAM (Advanced Traffic Data Analysis and Management), TRIMS (Tennessee Roadway Information Management System), the AADT book (Annual Average Daily Traffic) and the Division's three traffic count websites.
