Cooperative Research

These are workers studying the road.Cooperative Research is research that the Materials and Tests Division assists in and coordinates with our state universities. Most of this research is funded through the TDOT Research Office (Long Range Planning Division). The purpose of this research is to find ways to better engineer components of highway construction to make the roads ride smoother and last longer. This research includes all phases of highway work beginning with geotechnical investigation of sub-grade soils, rock slopes and landslides, and continuing until the final pavement surface is constructed. In addition, this research might also include the instrumentation, observation and analysis of existing roadways to determine modes of deterioration and the means to combat them.
