Division of Materials and Tests TDOT Certification: Concrete Technician Certification Program Course Title: Concrete Mix Design Course Certification Level: Grade III
The TDOT Concrete Mix
Design Technician is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and
ability to properly perform and record the results of four basic tests on concrete; perform calculations necessary to report
the data from each test; perform calculations necessary to design a concrete
mix. Scope of Course The program requires a
working knowledge of the following AASHTO/ASTM and TDOT Standards: AASHTO T 126/ASTM C
192 - Making and Curing Concrete Test Specimens in the Laboratory AASHTO T 22/ASTM C 39
- Compressive Strength of Cylindrical Concrete Specimens AASHTO T 84/ASTM C 128
- Specific Gravity and Absorption of Fine Aggregate AASHTO T 85/ASTM C 127
- Specific Gravity and Absorption of Coarse Aggregate TDOT Standard
Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction - Sections 500, 600 and 900 TDOT Supplemental
Specifications Process Control Plans Concrete Mix Design Supervisor's approval
and written recommendation Completion of Concrete
Certified Field Testing Technician Course, Level I Completion of Concrete
Plant Quality Control Technician Course, Level II Familiarity with
applicable TDOT Standard Specifications, Supplemental Specifications, and
Special Provisions Mathematical skills
through basic algebra TDOT will grant
certification to those applicants who meet both of the following
requirements: 1) A passing grade on
the written examination. The one-hour written
examination is "open book" and consists of 50 multiple choice
questions. To pass the written examination, a minimum score of 70%
overall is required. Recertification is
necessary every five (5) years and requires that the technician attend the
classes and successfully complete the written and performance examinations. *NOTE: Cheating on any level WILL ABSOLUTELY NOT BE TOLERATED and
will result in immediate expulsion from the course and a notification of
supervisors and directors. The use of cell phone calculators WILL NOT be
