Certification Requirements
TDOT will grant
certification to those applicants who meet both of the following requirements:
1) A passing grade on the written examination; and
2) Successful completion of the performance examination.
The one-hour written examination is "open-book" and consists of 48
multiple choice questions. There are five (5) to ten (10) questions on each
of the AASHTO/ ASTM Standards. To pass the written examination, both of the
following conditions must be met:
(a) at least 60% correct for each of the required standards; and
(b) a minimum score of 70% overall.
The performance examination takes place immediately after the written
examination. The performance examination requires that the student
demonstration the knowledge and ability to perform each of the seven required
standards. Evaluators may ask questions during the performance of the
tests in order to determine more accurately the students
knowledge of the standards. The student is evaluated on his ability to
correctly perform and describe all of the required procedures for each
standard.
Recertification is necessary every five (5) years and requires that the
technician attend the classes and successfully complete the written and
performance examinations.
*NOTE*: Cheating on any level WILL ABSOLUTELY NOT BE TOLERATED
and will result in immediate expulsion from the course and a notification of
supervisors and directors.
The use of cell phone calculators WILL NOT be
permitted during exam.
