Interstate 24 Multimodal Corridor Study

An informational Video about the I-24 Multimodal Corridor Study.

Tennessee's strategic corridors are major highways creating the backbone of the state's transportation system. They form an interconnected highway network carrying a large portion of the state's traffic linking major activity centers, including urban areas, growing smaller cities, tourist areas, and employment centers. These corridors are fundamental to Tennessee's economic development goals. They are also the highways under the highest stress due to increasing traffic growth, especially freight movement.

As identified in the Tennessee Long-Range Transportation Plan, known as PLAN Go, the strategic highway system identifies routes the state considers critical to statewide mobility and regional connectivity. It classifies those needing improvement, while protecting and maximizing their capacity over the next decade.

TDOT is working with Atkins North America, Inc. to complete the I-24 Multimodal Corridor Study which will identify short and long-term solutions for improving problem spots along the entire I-24 corridor. It's anticipated this study will be completed in January 2014. The study will investigate a range of multimodal solutions to address future travel demands, with emphases on managing congestion, improving safety, maximizing the potential for freight diversion, and preserving/enhancing the corridor's economic benefits.

TDOT is dedicated to managing congestion and improving safety and we will be working with local officials and individuals to collect as much data as possible.

Updates on reports and upcoming meetings will be posted on this website for you to follow.
