Project Update

Improving 66 Facts

The speed limit is now 35 mph.
It will remain in effect for the duration of the project (April 3, 2015).

Phase 2 – Douglas Dam Road (SR-139) to south of the I-40 Interchange:

Phase 2 is Complete!

Phase 3 - Boyds Creek Highway (SR-338) to Douglas Dam Road (SR-139):

Crews are actively working on the southbound bridge widening.  The existing steel beams for the northbound bridge have been repainted to maintain their protective coating.  Base stone placement, curb and gutter construction, and asphalt paving for the new outside lanes are being completed in available sections.  Installation of the 72” concrete pipe is ongoing and is approaching 70% completion (for the pipe installation).

Pictured below, crews are installing the 72” concrete pipe along the southbound side.

This week, crews will be working Thursday night to correct a possible sinkhole that has been settling in the northbound lanes of SR-66 near the Swaggerty Road intersection.  In order to investigate and correct for the settlement, crews will temporarily close lanes of northbound and southbound SR-66 Thursday (11/20) night from 7:00pm through 6:00am Friday between Trena Drive and SR-139.  Motorists should use extreme caution, expect changing conditions, and allow extra time to get to their destination during these times.

If you have any questions regarding the project, please call us at 865.429.4509.  As always, please use extreme caution and reduce speed  through the work zone.
