Project Update
Important Project NOTES: For those traveling to Knoxville, the Henley Bridge closed beginning January 3, 2011. Please refer to the project website for detailed information: www.tn.gov/Henley.com
The speed limit is now 35 mph.
It will remain in effect for the duration of the project (October 31, 2014).
Phase 2 – Douglas Dam Road (SR-139) to south of the I-40 Interchange:
Phase 2 is Complete!
Phase 3 - Boyds Creek Highway (SR-338) to Douglas Dam Road (SR-139):
Crews have been placing concrete in productive sections for the northbound widened bridge deck, as pictured below. Utility relocations and storm drain installation are also in progress throughout the project. City of Sevierville staff and motorists alike will also be pleased to know that installation of the new signal poles and equipment at the intersection of SR-66 and SR-338 (Boyds Creek Highway) is also underway.
As I mentioned last week, we have run into an accessibility issue with getting concrete out to the deck for placement on the northbound side and for safety and concrete delivery purposes this work must be done during the day. As such, daytime lane closures on the northbound bridge will be necessary this week and next week. The right northbound lane will be closed from Knifeworks Lane to Lee Greenwood Boulevard on Thursday (May 9) and again next week on Tuesday (May 14) and Thursday (May 16) between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. Such lane closures may be expected over the next few weeks as crews complete the northbound bridge deck widening. Motorists should expect delays and use extreme caution these days.
Short duration traffic stops should be expected daily throughout the project as crews move equipment and materials in and out of the work zone.
