Currently, the Relocated Alcoa Highway project is in the Design Phase. The final environmental document, Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI), was approved by FHWA on August 8, 2011.
The Environmental Document terminus encompasses State Route 115/US-129 (Alcoa Highway) Relocation Project from Hall Road (SR‑35)/Alcoa Highway, South of Airport Road to near Singleton Station Road in Blount County. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) conducted a Public Meeting on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 to discuss the project and share pertinent information regarding the document and the status of the project. The meeting was held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the City of Alcoa Service Center.
The previous Public Hearing was held for the project on June 29, 2004 to discuss the findings of the Environmental Assessment (EA), which was approved by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) on March 24, 2004. Since that time, TDOT has selected the Build Alternative studied in the 2004 EA as the “Preferred Alternative” for the project.
